Blood is very important topic for PG preparation. Let this thread have high yield points on blood, blood products, collection for particular purpose like glucose monitoring, transfusion etc;, storage and contents of various blood products and transfusion.

If you find any important topic that has lots of repeated questions in previous years, plz feel free to start new threads (say transplantation ... immunology related to it, rejection etc;)

This thread is one such attempt to serve as comprehensive revision guide for any information on blood, blood storage, collection and transfusion including blood products!

Plz provide references whenever possible preferably from latest edition of standard textbooks. (Any reliable reference is fine.) If you are quoting from your memory, plz mention ... from memory (so people will be encouraged to cross refer and correct errors, if any. - of course this is not meaning to insult your memory but just a precaution!)

Any ideas/plans that will help the aspirants would be most welcome and readily adopted/adapted within limits of the site's functionalities!!!

~~

A simpleton to start with!

Ferrohaemoglobin or Fe in ferrous (Fe2+) state in the Hb molecule alone can bind and carry Oxygen!

FerriHaemoglobin or Fe in ferric (Fe3+) state in Hb cannot bind to Oxygen and is called MetHaemoglobin!
