Post subject: Forensic Dentistry!
Hi everyone,

Though I am a Dentist by training, I have always dreamt of a career that would give me more job satisfaction or be more challenging to me. That is what prompted me to think about pursuing a career in Forensic Odontology. I hope you would able to help me out. I know that it would be of much help if you could give me some guidance.
To begin with let me ask you a few things;
What is the scope Forensic Odontology? A couple of Forensic Pathologists I approached, discouraged me when I asked them about this. I want to know about the scope of Forensic Odontology abroad as well as in India.

If I were to take up Forensic Odontology as a specialty, which is the best place for formal training, where they would take me as an overseas trainee? How difficult is it to get such a placement? What would be the duration of training? Will it be expensive? Can I work during my training period?

Dear Dr.Jkdrjk,
i spoke to Prof.Dr.J.G.Kannappan who is a representative of the Indian Association of Forensic Odontology.

Dr.Kannappan said that there are no approved courses in India for this specality. There is a PG diploma course but there are no authorised place to train oneself ... here in India...

So one can train oneself in
1) Adelaide University,Australia
2) Uk
3) Sweden
4) Norway
5) US

The procedure will be same as for any overseas course applicable for the particular country..

But as of now, in India this speciality is still in its infancy....and not well recognised....

More inormation will eventually follow after more discussion with Prof.Dr.J.G.Kannappan.

NOTE:
This is the report based on the telephone interview of our RxBDS editor with Prof.Dr.J.G.Kannappan.We express our sincere thanks to Prof.Dr.J.G.Kannappan for these valuble informations.

Unfortunately they are NOT recognised in India....job prospects in India are quite poor...though some college MIGHT hire u..though since the degree isnt recognised it cant be a regular post..it can be just a lecturer grade (BDS Grade) according to DCI even if u do PG course in Forensive Odontology from Australia for eg....

OET for these? Well if the unvi asks for it..then only we require OET or any other exam.. but I am not aware of those details..will try to gather info! but u can expect some delay.....from my side Sad

Regards,
Akil
