It is basically a research fellowship. Research in biomedical fields are gaining more interests...but then it would mean "away-from-drill-and-bill" work of dentistry!

Moreover, I personally feel they are NOT comparable since they are from different fields.

Akil

Keep track. Apply. Keep fingers crossed. But the path is not that easy always.

One other way to get into research is to do a PG degree and then do a Ph.D program (that will be 3 + 3-4 years) totallying 6-7 years AFTER BDS.

If selected, beware... research is one dirty field. If you just make one google search on "DNA history" you will come across one of the most famous research controversies. Over time things have become more complicated and plagiarism is much more common today than it was with all this techno-boom, things becoming easier for the plagiarist! I am not trying to discourage but it is best to know the shortcomings/risks/dangers, since being "forewarned is forearmed"!

But, the need of the hour is quality research in the field of dentistry and research in India is catching up but still lots need to be done with respect to quality and standards. This is my personal opinion. This is not to disrespect the working standards in India but just meaning it has lots....lots of scope for improvement!!

Regards,
Akil
