The DCI is reaping money at the expense of dental graduates in India. There are over 175 colleges in the country, the highest in the world!! Even US has only 55 dental schools. And all these dental graduates each year settle down in the same 30-40 cities in the country. SO this is resulting in an over population of dentists in the cities leading to increased competition, unfair practices and lowered rates charged by dentists. I would definitely say India is the least desirable place to be a dentist in. Yes, its harder to go abroad. And I am a patriotic Indian and love India. But DCI has forced bright young dental graduates to seek employment elsewhere because of their greedy money making policies.
In continuation of my above reply, I would like to add a few things and then the readers can decide for themselves. At some point or the other after graduating as a dentist I have either lived or visited almost all the countries mentioned in the poll except Canada, Kuwait and other gulf countries. The pros and cons are as follows:
US: pros- Its the place to make real money with the average annual income over 150000 and as a specialist around 200000. Even more as an orthodontist and an oral-maxillofacial surgeon. Real money, real fast. Also taxes are low compared to the other countries.
Con- Most people find it hard to bring up kids there with a very materialistic society. By the time kids are teenagers, it gets harder to relate to them
UK - A good place but of all the countries mentioned here, I felt most as an outsider there due to my dark Indian skin. Racism is not overrt but there. High taxes but good lifestyle. Good place for a family. Weather is awful though. Hard to set up own practice, but good to work for NHS
Canada- Haven't been there but heard it is good with good money and lifestyle and social security
Australia- Another place to set up a successful practice but most of it u return to the govt. in the form of taxes. Upto 47%, the highest of all these countries. So if u earn 100k a year, u get only about 60000 or so. In return there is social security though it irritates at times to see ur taxes being used up to pay unemployment allowances to people who don't want to work. So in effect to keep crime down every citizen pays for all those who either cant or dont want to work. Nice friendly place though getting increasingly Americanised. Bringing up kids can be a challenge once u have them. There is no mention of India anywhere in the society- TV, radio, newspaper, so u may miss home.
NZ: Perhaps the most beautiful place of all these. And the most racially comfortable place. Peaceful and beautiful. Onle problem is that u tend to get isolated from the rest of the world becoz of the geographical distance. Kiwis also tend to keep to themselves, so u can lose touch with a lot of things in India
So guys u decide. As an Indian the best place to be is India. Life is very uncomfy elsewhere, no maids, no drivers, no helpers. U have to do everything urself. But then if u want to get away form corruption and physical insecurity, any of these countries could be for you.
:-)
