MASTER OF PUBLIC HEALTH (MPH)

The University Grants Commission under its Innovative Programme scheme has provided a grant (sanction no.F.14-62/(Inno./ASIST) to establish a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree as a two-year full time post-graduate course. This revolutionary decision heralds the first ever MPH programme in Indian Universities, with the University of Pune as a pioneer institution.

Career opportunities
The MPH programme will provide career and employment opportunities for students in national and state Government health organizations, with advocacy groups; voluntary health organizations, in research and academic institutions and in international organizations including donor aid agencies.

Eligibility
The course will be open to students with an undergraduate degree in biological, clinical and social sciences.

B.Sc. (life sciences, nursing, pharmacology, dietetics), B.A. (Anthropology, Sociology, Psychology, LL.B, Journalism), MBBS, BAMS, BHMS, MSW

Teaching and evaluation
MPH is offered as a two year full time course. Students need to complete 100 credits in order to obtain the Masters degree. 75 credits are compulsory from the School. Remaining 25 credits can be taken from any other post-graduate department of the University of Pune, (those courses which are under the University credit system). The two-year course is organized into four teaching Semesters. Each Semester consists of 15 weeks of teaching. One credit hour is equivalent to 15 hours of teaching There is one hour of assessment for every 4 hours of teaching. Assessment may be in the form of evaluation of long/short written answers, multiple choice questions, presentation, term papers, assignments etc.40% of assessment is done during term so that there is continuous evaluation of the student, 60% assessment is done at the term end examination (held around May and November respectively).

Internships:

One of the key teaching/learning components of the MPH programme will be internship rotations. The MPH programme will function in close association with the government health services and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Rural residency during internship is a compulsory requirement.

Selection Criteria:

 

Selection is based on 50 % Entrance Test marks + 50 % Qualifying Examination marks for the candidates passing qualifying examination from Pune University, and solely on Entrance Test marks for candidates passing qualifying examination from any other University.

Important Note:

1. Students have to enter their Qualifying examination result marks (special subjects if any) on the web
site in their respective login.

2. Students have to submit mark sheet (attested true copy) of stated above to the
Interdisciplinary School of Health Science, University of Pune.

Application procedures:

 

To facilitate the applicants from various parts of the country, University of Pune has decided to provide a facility of internet based application system to appear for entrance test from this year onwards. Following procedure will explain you how to apply for entrance test for the admission to Post Graduate courses of Pune University.

Phase I - Filling in the Online Application Form
Candidate will see the advertisement in newspaper and browse the information about the department and the course/s offered by it as published on the website.
 

The application fee to be paid by the candidate by Demand Draft (DD) in favor of Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Limited, payable at Pune is clearly mentioned in the advertisement and on website http://www.mkcl.ws/pupg on which the candidates will fill in the online application form.
 

The candidate will arrange for the application fee DD
 

The candidate will fill in the online form by clicking on 'Apply Online' and also enter the DD details in the inline application form.
 

The online software application hosted on the website will compile the information filled in by the candidate and generate his/her personalized application form for the entrance test.
 

The candidate will take a printout of the pre-filled and compiled application form for the entrance examination immediately after filling in the online form.
 

The attested true copies of the required documents to be submitted by the candidate along with the print out of application form will be enlisted on the printout of the application form
 

A unique Application ID will be generated and provided to the candidate. Using this Application ID the candidate will be able to login to the online admission system to check status of processing of his/her application form.

Phase II - Submission of printed application form
The candidate will arrange for the required documents enlisted on the printout of the application form.
 

The Candidate will paste his/her photograph on the application form, and affix signature on the printout of the application form.
 

The candidate will write his/her name, Application ID, and address on the reverse side of the application fee DD.
 

The candidate will then send the signed printout of the application form along with the required documents and application fee DD to MKCL by post on following address

If any candidate fills in the online form but dose not send the printed application form along with required documents and application fee DD to MKCL, such online application will not be considered as a valid application for admission.


Phase III - Entrance test
Candidates will receive the admit cards by post at the address for correspondence given by them.
 

Candidate can also download and print the admit card from using his login id and password from the website.
 

As per the admission procedure stipulated by the department, the department will conduct the entrance test.
 

Department will conduct the GD and /or PI if applicable.
 

Candidates will carry the admit card and visit the venue of the entrance test to appear for the test.
 

Department will evaluate the answer sheets of the test.

Phase IV - Admission
The merit lists of the successful candidates will be published on the website.
 

The candidate will visit the website to see the merit list.
 

Department will also check the ORIGINAL required documents of the candidate and finalize his/her eligibility.
 

If the candidate is found eligible Department will accept the course fee from the candidate and allocate seat to the candidate.
 

As per the number of seats allocated against the available ones the department can publish the successive merit lists (if required) and conduct GD and / or PI (if applicable) to allocate vacant seats as mentioned above.

HI. I M A BDS. WHEN I WENT THRU THE ARTICLE, I DIDNT FIND " B.D.S. " DEGREE UNDER THE "ELIGIBILITY" HEADING.
SO MY QUESTION IS -- CAN A B.D.S. PURSUE SUCH A COURSE ?
