Shall we take the road less travelled
by......
will it make a
difference?
What about doing MBA after finishing BDS? MDS still remains the best(??) option available after BDS....or
shall we say one of the best options?
The reason why I am going in for a contrarian approach is the cost of doing MDS,
which is touching the skies. If one has the opportunity to clear
the All India PG Exam, it's fine otherwise one must be ready to shell out atleast 12
lakhs, which is not final; and one may have to give even more and even with that
high stakes the results seem to be a bit discouraging,
So the question is "Can a doctor go in for a
management degree?"
In fact, if you had asked an engineer the same question 5-6 yrs
back he would have thought along similar lines because being already in a
professional line, doing MBA after engineering would have been something like
spoiling the professional qualification you have already got. But look at them
now, every second engineer after finishing B. Tech. wants to do a management
course from a reputed Business School. The conventional masters degree after B.
Tech. has taken a back stage.
What I want to say is that in today's world we need a SPECIALIST not a
GENERALIST.
An engineering or tech firm will want its CEOs to be MBAs originaly from
engineering background rather than simple graduates and MBA.
So, if engineers can do it why can't we? Big pharma corporations, Dental R&D
firms will prefer specialist MBAs from related fields. So if one is a
specialist and has got a good MBA degree good jobs will just happen as a matter
of fact!....And on top of that we doctors have got a special option of doing Hospital
Management, which is our specialty and gives us excellent opportunity to serve
in a big hospital, and to partner it in its development and improve the way it
serves the people.
Having said all that, doing MDS, if you can afford it, remains the best option at
present. But...who can say about the future?
So thinking different should still be an option. Go ahead and follow your dreams
BEST OF LUCK
